Piping system for flue gas desulfurization Oil, coal and gas are the resources predominantly used in power generation worldwide. Burning these fossil fuels, however, creates the greenhouse gas CO2 and leads to global warming.
In order to use coal in an environmentally friendly way, Vattenfall, the energy corporation, has invested in the world’s first pilot system to desulfurize flue gas by capturing CO2 according to the oxyfuel process in a lignite fired power plant. Pipes, fittings and valves made of PP-H by GF Piping Systems are used in this application in the dimensions d 20 to d 63.
Developing such a system for CO2 capture in a lignite-fired power plant according to the oxyfuel process demanded a great deal of flexibility and innovativeness on the part of all those involved. The 30 MW system was commissioned at the „Schwarze Pumpe“ Industrial Park in eastern Germany in summer 2008.
