We think and act sustainably Green thinking and action is a tradition at GF Piping Systems.
Climate change and a clean drinking water supply are key ecological issues that the world urgently needs to deal with. Georg Fischer is actively making a contribution to finding solutions for the complex problems in precisely these areas.
We offer complete plastic systems for nearly every application, whether in building technology, water treatment, cooling or other segments.
Climate and energy Conserving energy has the highest environmental priority at Georg Fischer. When energy is consumed, nonrenewable resources are used and air emissions are created. That is why we always aim to improve energy efficiency in our production processes, thus reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
Sustainable use of resources The trend toward a more sustainable use of energy requires action in diverse business areas. The same high standards apply to all Georg Fischer plants worldwide.
In 2008 Georg Fischer invested roughly 26 million Swiss francs in environmental protection. Thanks to a series of measures, water consumption was reduced by more than half despite increased production. Several millions more were invested worldwide in solutions to conserve natural resources. For example, over 3.5 million Swiss francs were dedicated to a plant in Singen (Germany), where the heat generated in the melting process is recovered and furnished to neighboring industrial plants. Also at the iron foundry in Kunshan (China), which took up operation in 2009, Georg Fischer emphasizes the eco-friendly use of water.
Working with suppliers The social and ecological responsibility of a company is valid also for their choice of business partners, especially suppliers. Corporate Management agreed on the sustainability target that by the end of 2009 over 80 percent of our key suppliers have to have certified quality and environmental management systems in place. An important step towards achieving this was made in December 2008 by the approved introduction of a „Codex for suppliers of Georg Fischer”.
